Dear AMIM,
Thank you for the donations recieved from the individual AMIMers.
I'll try to make the report brief. Currently, BBHC team has set up a
temporary clinic at a monastery in South Dagon. They treated 40, 90
and 200 patients on May 8,9 and 10. The cost of medicine alone was
500 $.
I am collaborating closely with partners. I'd like to keep their
names confidential since this is
a public site. You can e-mail me
privately if you have an interest. We're attempting to set up mobile
clinics there. As of now the GM there has recruited 14 doctors and 5
non-medical personnel working at 3 different locations in addition to
the temporary clinic. We're still working on hiring cars and drivers
to become truly mobile.
Communication has been problematic to say the least. I got all this
info from a third person who I always chat with on gmail. He is a 3rd
MB student and is recruited to be part of our team. He will be our
official messenger and gopher although he doesn't know it yet.
I am so relieved that Ma Ma Cynthie will be there first. I will work
under her very able leadership.
As much as I want to help I must
admit I don't know Jack from disaster relief. I'm sure it's the same
for many Burmese working on the ground now too. That's where Ma
Cynthie comes in and educate us through crash training course.
My plans are only tentative and the situation may change at a
moment's notice. I am planning to give myself a crash course in
learning about common infectious diseases after natural disasters and
their management. I see myself as a training partner for the doctors
in the teams. I hope to be travelling with the mobile teams to the
delta area as there are recent news that people and aid groups have
been allowed to travel there. I'll set up as many mobile clinics as
the funds allow.
I will have to continue with the collaborative
efforts with our partners in finding and recruiting personnel,
obtaining supplies, warehouse space and potential routes for
transporting equipment/cargo/ moolah into the country.
Will keep you all posted as news develop. I am sorry it won't be on
this blog though. I will keep a few people on my e-mail loop and if
anything sounds interesting you may post it on the blog.
Hope this helps. Wish me luck. Thanks so much again for the
donations. Please also spread the word about BBHC in addition to your
own. The pitching points are that it's a Burmese-led small group with
absolutely no overhead and the donations will go directly to the
people inside Burma and not the gov. which is a concern of most
potential donors.
Best,
Jalin
